Info Request

Do you have the automatic height control system on your land cruiser or standard suspension?

Is this all the time or only certain speed ranges?

Reply

I am not certain what you refered to as the automatic height control system

Yes it drives rough at all times.

Do you have a button that allows you to change ride height?

There is no button or switch I can identify that allows you to change ride height

Ok, inside the instrument cluster do you have an image of the truck with a "H", "N" and "L" icon? Just trying to identify your setup, there were a few options on these trucks. THanks

The only place that I see this "H", "N" and "LL" is on the four wheel drive shift lever next to the automatic transmission selector lever

Ok, I believe you have standard suspension here then.

How many miles are on the truck now?

Have you noticed any abnormal tire wear?

Does the truck seem to pull at all?

Does the truck get unstable when going over bumps?

Can you elaborate on the riding rough issue so that I can better visualize exactly what you are experiencing?

130000 km recorded on the odometer.

No abormal tire wear but because of this problem I change tires twice, just to see if it was cause by the tires.

Does not pull to either side

Certainly unstable going over bumps

Driving on the high way not too bad, driving on normal paved road with bumps the vehicle keeps shaking all over. The dashboard, the brake pedal just about anything.

Ok, one last thing I want you to test for me here....drive the truck, while at speed and thevibration is occuring I want you to let your foot off the gas and place the transmission in neutral while at speed, tell me if the vibration changes at all.

The vibration is still there. Every bump or every rut the vehicle runs over is felt. That smooth ride that should be there is not. I must tell you that I have fitted four new shocks, four new rims, four new tires, but the problem still exist. I am frustrated.

Accepted Answer

I can understand that.

Ok if the vibration was still present when in neutral then this eliminates a few things here.

The items remaining here that need to be checked are as follows:

1- brakes! If the rotors are badlky warped or binding it can cause vibrations at all speeds, check all pads/calipers carefully.

2- Driveshafts. You need to put the truck in the air and carefully check the universal joints for any binding or freeplay, I have also seen cases where the rear driveshaft being over greased or under greased will cause the vibrations

3- Suspension.....I feel you are dealing with a suspension issue here, the fact that the truck gies nuts over dips indicates a suspension issue. I would carefully check the sway bars/bushings.connecting rods. I have seen the sway bar brackets come loose from the frame on the front of these before causing this. I will not be online much today for Easter but I can upload any images or diagrams you may need on this.
