Question

My 8 month old pup (possibly terrier/collie/datcschund cross, not sure as she is 1 of 3 pups that I rescued from an abandonded litter) recently yelped whilst out walking and started to limp. I gave her lots of attention and examined her leg with which showed no obvious signs of injury so I thought she'd maybe just sprained her ankle type of thing. Since then she seems fine most of the time. She still limps occasionally, this is 4 weeks on but it is usually when I'm eating, (she's cured as soon as my plate is empty) or one of the other dogs is getting more attention. I take them for an hours walk each day, and she shows no symptoms. When she does limp it is very pronounced, I'm a little worried because it has occasionally presented when there is no obvious attention seeking. If I massage her leg it improves, could it be a cramp? should I see the vet or is it as I suspect some kind of attention seeking behaviour?

Hello,

It is possible it is attention behavior........but I am concerned since there was a original injury and the fact that she does do it sometimes when there is no attention situation. I would strongly recommend that you set up a appointment with your vet. Since she is young there is the chance that she has some hip issues or even a old injury that did not heal well.

Sometimes stress or excitement can cause a dog to display discomfort from old injury's as well. So it is possible that there is a issue that needs to be corrected.
