2001 pontiac aztek car will start .after you drive for awhile then shut it off it my or may noy start again. replaced gas filter and fuel pump.104.000 miles.

When this vehicle will not start, does the starter turn the engine over without starting or does the engine just not crank over?

the motor will crank over but it sounds if it isn't firing i've had it towed in twice. the 1st time it started after about in hour . fuel pump put on sat the 2nd one in a week.i was driving pulled it into get gas and wouldn't start again for 1 half hour.

Ok have you been able to verify fuel pressure, and spark at the plugs when this problem occurs? Do you get any check engine lights while driving?

don't know about pressure.but no check engine lights come on .car runs real good good engine toqure and power.

Ok upon startup, your engine needs three thing. #1 SPARK This can be tested by inserting a spark tester into one of the spark plug leads and then cranking the engine. You should see a white-blue spark at this point. #2 FUEL This needs to be tested in two anners. First a fuel pressure test to verify that the fuel pressure is within specs, and second a injector pulse test using a noid light at the injectors to show its getting the proper on off voltage to open and close the injectors. The third item, but likely not a problem in your case would be compression. I do not feel that testing compression is going to be revelant to your situation. If you can test for fuel and spark and find which is missing, I can really begin to assist you!
