Question

My York Furnace, model GY9S*UP keeps starting the fan for a few seconds and then shutting down over and over. I checked the vents, they are clear. I notice that if I cut the power to the furnace for about 5 minutes and then restore the power it fires up OK

Answer

Are you refering to your induced draft fan which is connected to the vent?

If so;

One cause could be of a bad capaciter.

You will need a meter capable of measuring the capacitor.

Do you own a meter?

Answer

I just looked up some information on your furnace and you have a 5 year warranty on parts.

If your furnace is less than 5 years old I would get a technician to expedite the warranty process and change the part needed.

it is less then 5 years old. I did not mail the little warranty card in but that is not required I believe.

no meter to measure capacitors here.

I meant that I checked the exhast and air intake vents were clear because I have gotten a similar fan and shut down cycle before when snow covered them.

it just successfully fired up again on its own but I am pretty sure at some point in the night it will fail again and go into fan and shut down cycle again. I will get a tech in tomorrow since it is late evening here.

Answer

Please let me know what happens. Your motor could also be on its way out.

Either way I would like to hear what you find out.
