Question

I have fiat mulipla 1.9 tdi, 01. For the past two months i have had an intermittent fault. When i go to accelerate nothing happens for about 5 secs. there is no miss firing, engine revs stay the same.i took it to the dealer for a diagnostic but they came back with a number of possibilities, not inspiring confidence. Is it possible to isolate this intermittent fault. The car has done 97k and is regularly serviced in accord with the manufactures recommendations. Thanks for your time, Mr. M.Popple

Optional Information

2001 fiat multipla 110elx 1.9 diesel

Already Tried:
changed air flow meter last oct 08. Had diagnostics which suggested egr valve, air flow meter, throttle etc. Spoke to friend who is mechanic and he said they were just trying to cover al the possibilities. Their solution was not cheap either.

Accepted Answer

Time to change the fuel filter, and air filter. Diesel fuel is thick, and leaves behind unwanted diesel plague, (if you will) in the feed lines, and filter. This opperation is inexpensive and I would certainly do this before anything else. Also after the trouble is corrected I would have all trouble codes erased.
