When I put new tyres on my BMW X5 3.0, I was told that there is grease leaking from the left front axle. I was told that I should repair the CV joint. Gave an estimate of $250 to rebuild. Asked mechanic at Pepboys auto, they advised to replace the joint. Estimate was $ 550 to replace. (Pepboys did not inspect the vehicle). BMW dealer gave an estimate of 550 to repair the CV joint. What should I do?

Hi smitpa
If you are not experiencing any form of knocking noise when turning corners i would think the CV joints are ok.If this is the case i would go ahead and replace the defective CV boots and re grease the joints.this is a common failure on this model.
