I got a ticket for going through a yellow light. I was only 20 to 25 feet before the intersection going 30 mph, should I have gotten a ticket?

Answer
Dear XXXXXXXXXXXXX,
It is unlikely that you received the ticket for going through a yellow light, since it is lawful to enter an intersection on a yellow light. More likely, the light changed from yellow to red just as you were entering the intersection. This is among the most commonly ticketed traffic offenses.
Unfortunately, if you enter an intersection on a red light (or a yellow-turning-red light, which is a judgment call usually decided by the officer), you have violated traffic rules and can be ticketed at the discretion of the officer who pulled you over.
Sorry to bear bad news!
best,
Andrew
