Question

1. I own a 93 Evinrude 40hp (SE 40 RSLG) serial no. G03026342. The hydraulic assist trim lift keeps breaking the plastic cable end shells, part no. 334153, (7 so far). The cable appears to be ok but cannot obtain a part number for it to try a new one. Also, the release/operating lever has severed under strain. I cannot source a part no. for this. Secondly, the engine is in the down position at the moment making access to the cable and shell impossible.

Hi Dave

The cable is 436202, the lever is 431962. If it is stuck in the down position. You might have to take one side of the transom bracket loose to get at it. I am trying to figure out what is causing this and just have not seen that much. The only thing I can think of is that you are trying to lock the motor in a partial up position and run it that way, like having power trim. That system is not designed for that and needs to be all of the way down and locked to work correctly.

I hope this helps

Thanks for that, I'll try and source the parts and try new ones and see if that cures this ongoing problem. The engine has only ever been run in the full down position. Although I bought it new in 93, it only has 22 hours use on my log.
Thanks for your help, I'll come back to you if I need to.
