Question

This question is about an outdoor patio in Colorado. My patio is rose colored conrete with a surrounding curved area on the east side that serves as a flower garden. I recently got two small dogs who love to dig. Looks like the flower garden must go. I would like to pave or tile that area and use it for a bbq and a table with chairs. Also, maybe some potted plants.   My question is what material should I use, flagstone?, porcelain tile?, and should I try to achieve a bold contrast in color since I don't want it to look like I am now trying to match the rest of the patio. I would also like to keep the cost to a minimum but don't want to sacrifice quality. So, I need suggestions as to material and color. Would like it to pop and have a WOW factor. Please Help, Thanks Joan DiRose

Answer

Hello XXXXXX,

Welcome to Just Answer.

Sorry to hear about your problem.

I don't think that flagstone will give you the "wow" factor that you are looking for, also it is expensive. Porcelain tile I wouldn't even recommend because it will not last; it is not durable enough unless you installed it on a concrete slab. Since your existing patio is rose color, I would go with a deep red brick paver. This will give you the "pop" you are looking for, it will have a nice texture, there are many patterns to choose from, it will compliment the rose color and it will be very durable and not cost you a fortune.

Click here to see the brick color I think will look good; darker red if possible.

I thought your answer was right on the mark. Dark red would be a great contrast. But I am having trouble finding a brick in the right color. So many of them are light red, almost pink, and then they tend to go orange.

Thank you, Joan

XXXXXX,

I cannot recall what they have at the home improvement stores; you may need to go to a landscape stone/ brick yard to find the deep red. If you decide to go with bricks rather than concrete pavers, I definitely know that you will find a deep red. A local brick supplier would carry them.
