I have 1997 silverdo 5.7 truck and first the intake gasgets went out, had that fixed and check engine light came on, they replaced the ourge valve & oxygen sensor check engine light came back on after 2 weeks took it to gm dealer now they say I need heads reserfaced $36000 and that is why it has a misfire, but when they get the check engine light off it runs great, it just runs bad when the light comes on. I think if it was valves it would run bad all the time. please help I have spent over 1000 and still have a problem.

Thank you for answering I don't know the codes other then it say's the purge valve is not working, but they replaced the purge valve and 1 oxygen sensor. That was the 2 place I took it to. Like I said the last G.M. dealer I took it to, I called them and told them I was not happy about the recomendation to replace the heads at $3600.00. They said it was missing because of going up hill or pulling a load. I told them it don't miss until the check engine ligth comes on. They said they would recheck after the light comes back on. I think I'm getting the run around. This truck was bought new at this G.M. dealler. Thank you for your help Carl

there is another thing that can cause this problem..the fuel presure regulator,the diaphram may be busted in it....the heads ,i dont think would act like this...and the price they gave you is really high
change the fuel presure regulator
