Question

I was molested at the age 11 or 12 yrs old by two different relatives, one being my sister of 14yrs old, the other being a cousin. This has stay in my mind, I am now 64 yrs old. I would consider my self as bisexual and have for many ,many yrs. I have thought a lot about homosexual relations. I look at most every woman from a sexual stand point, including the sister . Over the years I have been propositioned by a landlady, and two very close friend of me and my wife of 42 yrs. This is all I think about for days on end. My wife has found my little book with of all the web sites dealing online syber sex and dating. i have been given the choice and I made an appt. with a Psychiatrist. Is this the correct person.

Hello:

Based on your description of your opinions and activities, I don't think a psychiatrist is the best choice, because most likely you do not need medication.

My suggestion is to find a specialist in sexual disorders, specifically sexual addictions to help you process the abuse you suffered as a child and help you to make better choices as an adult. You need someone who will work BEHAVIORALLY with you. A psychiatrist will prescribe medication.
