Question

Hi my name is XXX. X am having great problems with my skype headset. I can hear people but they cannot hear me. The microphone was working fine and all of a sudden, it stopped working. I have checked the mute & hold and they are both off. I have also been down to town to by a new headset thinking it would solve the problem, but it hasn't. Have also looked at the windows firewall, but cannot see what is wrong. I have also checked and done a test. There's no problem with detecting sound. It's just the microphone to my knowledge. It would be great if you can solve my problem as I run a home business and rely on using the skype. Thank you for your help. Sam Brook

Optional Information

Already Tried:
1. I have checked my mute & hold button which are both turned off.

2. Been onto settings and then onto the control panel. Press on Windows firewall and checked that there wasn't anything blocking it.

Info Request

Can you tell me are you able to use the microphone with other programs? If you use the sound recorder in the start menu> all programs> accesories> entertainment does it record the sound from the microphone? If you have another computer around does the microphone work on the other machine?

Answer

If nothing happens as well on the sound recorder then this is most likely a problem with your sound card. Right click on my computer click on properties, click on the hardware tabd and then click on device manager. Click on the + sign next to sound, video, and game controllers. If you see anything with a red x on it right click it and click enable. If you see anything with a yellow ! on it right click and click update driver and when prompted click yes this time only then next. After updating or enabling restart the computer and test. If none of these fixes the issue you will most likely need to replace your sound card as it has an issue with it's microphone input jack.

Answer

What operating system are you using? If you have xp after clicking properties a box should come up with tabs at the top you can click on.

click on the hardware tabd
then click on device manager
Click on the + sign next to sound, video, and game controllers

If you see anything with a red x on it right click it and click enable. If you see anything with a yellow ! on it right click and click update driver and when prompted click yes this time only then next.

After updating or enabling restart the computer and test. If none of these fixes the issue you will most likely need to replace your sound card as it has an issue with it's microphone input jack.
