Question

it started with around my nostrils getting real sore like it would from a black head then then the inside of my cheek started getting sore in places and feels swollen. Now my nose is sore up to the bridge and it's all red and swollen. I suffer from chronic sinus infections, could this be caused from an infection and how serious is it.

Answer

Hi trixierose 1950,

You most likely have a soft tissue infection in the nose area. Bacteria can gain entry either through the nostrils or through the sinuses.

If your nose is red and swollen you need antibiotics as soon as possible. Because the nose area doesn't have a lot of blood flow, this type of infection is unlikely to clear on its own.

You should see you doctor as soon as possible to get a prescription of antibiotics. If you start treatment promptly, the infection should clear very quickly.

Thank you, I can't get to the doctor tomorrow, I have a few amoxicillin and ciprofoxcin would one of them help till I get there? He had me on these for sinus infection and he ended up putting me on something else, thats why i have a few of these left.

Try amoxicillin. It is a good antibiotic for skin infections. You can also try applying ice to the area to decrease the swelling.
