Question

Our healthy 4lb. Yorkie just wallowed a couple beads from some curtains we had purchased. It looks like 2 of the larger, teardrop shaped that are 1/2 in. long and 1/4 in. max width along with a few smaller round and tiny. What should we do?? Worried. Please reply. Thanks.

Answer

If he just swallowed them and they went down whole you can try getting him to vomit them back up.

You may want to give him a small meal first to help give him something to vomit up that could carry the beads with it. A spoon of canned food might do it.

If your dog just ate these within the last 60 minutes you can get the dog to vomit it up using fresh 3% hydrogen peroxide which you can read about scrolling down on this page

Do this only on an easily cleaned surface and some people have the dog stand in the tub to vomit so clean up is easy.

If its been more than an hour then feeding your dog some high fiber food should help them pass through the system. Plain canned pumpkin, oatmeal, bran flakes, sweet potato, winter squash all are high fiber foods. A spoon or two of those may help the beads pass through as fiber bulks up stool and retains moisture so its easy to pass the stool and may carry the beads out with it.

If you see any signs of abdominal pain, diarrhea, rectal bleeding, vomiting etc then you would want to see your vet to determine if the beads will have to be surgically removed.
Hope this helps you!
