Answer

Hi,

If your reset tool does not work, you do really need to get the fault memory read as it could be a number of faults.

You said there was no damage and no air bags has gone off.

I would check the front seats as both have a pre-tensioner loom fitted and they have issuse with high resistance.

Check the plug connections.

Try to have the fault memory read and hopefully we will have a code to work with..

Hope this helps.

Thanks,mark

In my initial letter I read the codes and send them to you.
What I need to know is where to locate all collision sensors related to frontal bottom collision detection and replace them if necessary or how to do a force reset on the vehicle without having to take it in to the dealership and spend hundreds of dollars for the reset or replacement of faulty or stuck sensors.

Answer

Hello again,

Have you had the fault memory read? What codes did you get.?

There are no sensors fitted to the front of your vehicle,if there is a crash it is all picked up by the MRS control unit which is under the center console.

You can not force a reset,if there are faults in the system.

To have the fault memory read at a dealer it will cost only 15 mins labor time.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,Mark

Hello Mark:

Apparently the board chopped off my original info,so here it is again.
Vehicle 2002 525i E39
Tool used in attempt to reset is a Bavarian Autosport SRS (Airbag) Scan and Reset tool.
Tool display codes in Hexadecimal format.
Both Hex and Decimal are listed below in displayed sequence.

Hex                       & nbsp;                                          Dec    Possible Code

FA (Normal start Default)

03(Lookup Table not in manual)               24
Press Start
50                                &n bsp;                                    80   Supply Voltage, Battery checks ok!!!
Press Start
02                                                                      02   Firing circuit Belt tensioner driver side
Press Start
91                           &nb sp;                                         144 Crash Tele Gramm Memory

Press Start
-- (end test)
Display on Dashboard

Control Check OK
Test- NR. 01
FGSTNR: GF42652

BMWTNR: XXXXXXX
CI:12 DI:09 BI:15
DAT:43/04
HW:24 SW:2100/2100
ZYL:06 M:3 S:4095
CAN:04 AEND:44
The only noted problem is that sometimes the passenger seatbelt will not retract properly until pulled a few times, although there were no passengers at time of impact.
Also the seat reclining motor has a bad linkage that happened weeks before the impact.
A new motor base has been ordered to replace the defective motor and cable link.
I have the Bently manual to the vehicle and it shows how to remove the seat without disturbing normal operations.
Also the manual shows two sensors located between both seats under the rug???
I have been told that sometimes when the seats are removed for servicing, the Airbag light might come on.
This same seat was defective with the same condition weeks after I bought the vehicle.
If part of the problem is the belt tensioner is there a way to test it with a multimeter?
It seems to lock and unlock ok.
Hope you received all of this info.

Thanks

Answer

Hi,

There is a sensor under the passengers seat, which is the yaw sensor this detects side ways movement.

You can pick up high resistance with a muti metre but sometimes it can be very hard.

I think the best thing to do is have the fault memory deleted then checked again and if there is a currently present fault this will be your problem..

Thanks,Mark
