Question

I have put a deposit on a chihuahua puppy and I recieved a call from the breader informing me that 2 of the puppies have died from a puppy syndrome. Im concerned that I will be purchasing a sick puppy even though she has informed me that my puppy has a clean bill of health given from the vet, do you think it would be best not to purchase this puppy or that this puppy will be safe as she has been cleared of ill health ?

Info Request

How old is the puppy now?

How long ago did the other pups die?

Have you personally seen the breeding facilities?

Reply

The other puppies die in the last 24 hrs.

The puppies were born on the 29th of Feburary 2009.

I have not seen the breeders facilities as I have only had contact through e-mail and phone.

The breader has been sending me regular updated photos of my puppy and I must admit from the photos the surroundings dont look very clean.

I believe this lady to be a top breader and successful with her puppies and from what she has informed me this is the first time she has lost puppies.

Accepted Answer

Honestly, if she was a "top breeder", she would have immaculately clean facilities.

My recommendation, when it comes to breeders, is that you should be able to inspect the premises for yourself, and see at least one if not both parents of the pups.

Puppies can't be weaned and sold for at least 6 weeks -- so I would recommend getting your deposit back, and in the meantime, try to find a local breeder whose facilities you can see.
