She has vomitted five times in the last 3 days. Two days ago she would barely move but was better the next day. She didn't vomit blood untill last night. She is not on any medication. She occasionally eats people food but small amounts. She will eat almost anything edible she can find on the ground even though I try to stop that behavior. She is not a chewer and does not eat rocks, sticks, or string. We moved into a new house about a week ago and it was pretty dirty. She might have eaten something she found on the floor.

She has not been eating or drinking very much and I have tried to make her at least drink water. Her gums are the normal pinkish color. She does not have diarrhea.

Accepted Answer

Asprin can cause this so that is why I was asking about medications especially since she was sore a few days ago. There are a number of reasons for blood in the vomitus. 1) This could be a change of color from the dye in the food. 2) She may have stomach ulcers. 3) Chronic vomiting can cause stomach irritation that can lead to vomiting. 4) She may have consumed an object, stick, bone, rawhide, etc that caused some irritation on the way down. 5) She may have a bleeding disorder or autoimmune issue.

If this blood in the vomit continues I definitely would recommend having her evaluated. In the meantime you can give her a pepcid twice daily to help settle her stomach. If her gums are pale or she is weak then consider getting her into the emergency vet tonight.

Please let me know if further assistance is needed.
