Hi
is this noise like a squealing when setting off ?
Kind regards
Peter
Its not really a high pitch squeal, like you might get from a squeaky fan belt, but not bass either. It is mid-range and it sounds like the engine is really struggling to pull (almost like you had selected say 4th gear rather than 1st). It doesn't happen every single time, but is pretty common. I have tried increasing and, alternatively, decreasing revs at the time the clutch is released, but this hasn't made any difference, so I don't think that it is down to my driving style (put it this way, I have been driving for 20 years, and have never had any clutch/gearbox problems before).
May be an unrelated point, but the engine also sounds like a rattley old deisel at times. Again, its not all the time, and the noise usually goes away after a good drive, but it does happen quite regularly.
I tend to do about 70 miles per day, being a mixture of motorways (about 50 miles out of the total 70) and in-town traffic (being about 20 miles out of the total 70). the car is less than a year old and has done just over 10k miles.
Thanks and kind regards
Simon
There are some problems with the fly wheel on these cars listening to what you are describing I would think that is the problem with your car.
the fly wheel is probably the rattle from the engine as well.
If you found my answer helpful, please don't forget to accept . When the answer is not accepted I don't get payed. I can continue to provide assistance even after you have accepted.

Dear Peter
Is a fly wheel straightforward to mend?
Thanks
when the flywheel is the problem the gear box will need to be removed to replace the flywheel.
to remove the gear box the front subfram needs to be removed as well.
so it is a fair job to do.
Hmm - I guess my garage is going to try to wriggle on this as it would be warranty work. Any helpful hints on how to get them to acknoweldge it?
thanks for your help - much appreciated
Hi Simon
I would insist in driving the car with a technician and show the noise to them.
When the technician agrees that there is a fault they will need to do something about it.
When they try to wiggle out of the job I would call MINI Customer service and complain to them.
Normally the customer service people are good they will help you.
thank you very much
simon
It was my pleasure.
