yes i have air con, no this has only started the past few days which have been hot & dry

Hi

This sounds very much like the drain line from the condensor unit is somehow blocked as the AC will de-humidfy the incoming air and the water is supposed to drain out under the car via a vent or pipe.

The pipes run either side of the transmission tunnel, and end up either side of the gearbox, by the catylsts. They have a simple rubber "one-way valve" on their ends, to stop water going back up whilst wading. However, these block up with road-dirt and the condensation then fills the pipes and spills back into the footwells.

Clean the pipes / valves out and that should fix things.
