Info Request

Hello,

I am sorry your kitty is having trouble.

How old is she?

Is she spayed?

Does she go outside?

What happened to her? Was she burned? in an accident?

How long ago did this start?

Was she seen by a vet? (assuming so since you have antibiotics and albuterol).

How long ago did she see her vet?

has she improved at all while receiving treatment?

Any coughing or sneezing?

Were chest x-rays taken? Was she tested for leukemia and aids?

Sorry for all the questions, please try to answer them as completely as possible so I can be more helpful.

About one month old, probably less. Not spayed. She went outside once before getting sick. No accidents at all. Started two days ago. No or minimal improvement. Coughing, loss of voice, lots of mucus. Seems like she has a really bad cold. No testing of any sort.

Answer

Because your kitty is so young and is having trouble breathing, I think that it would be a good idea to have her seen by a vet immediately. Respiratory distress is always considered to be an emergency and it is much more serious in one so young. I am also concerned about the dilated eyes, because it can indicate a neurological component to this illness, which can be very serious and life threatening. If your kitty is having trouble breathing, she may also be so congested that her sense of smell is diminished, which means that she is probably not eating well It is extremely dangerous for cats this young to go longer than 6 hours without eating because the liver and kidneys have very specific nutritional requirements and can start to shut down without adequate nutrition. The longer you wait to have this kitten seen, the more difficult and expensive it will be to make her well again. I know that a trip to the emergency vet is expensive, but this kitten cannot wait until Monday to be seen. Please try to have her seen ASAP and let me know if I can be of further assistance. If this has been helpful, please hit the green accept button. Good luck with your little one.
