Question

Greetings - I have been diagnosed with siliac disease - 3 months ago - I have been following the proper diet. I continue to have constant constipation (no bowel movement for up to 4 days) followed by a day of diarrhea. I went for a second endoscopy and colonoscopy yesterday for biopsies - the results I received today said that everything looked normal - just acid reflux re-added to the list. Also I am anemic. I have no quality of life due to this (difficult to run errands, go to events). I am a 40 year old female. Medications: birth control pill, lamodil (spell?), Xanax for sleep. Any thoughts? A response is most appreciated. Thank you. XXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX

Accepted Answer

You should have blood tests to check your thyroid status. Thyroid disease could explain some of your bowel symptoms and can also be associtade with anemia

Thank you for your response - I have had blood work done - though I do not have the paperwork in front of me. I was tested for thyroid diseases but that was well over 6 years ago.

Any further suggestions?

Answer

If you bowel symptoms developed after this thyroid test, then you should be tested again. My only other thought is to see a nutritionist to make sure you gluten free diet is correct
