Supposedly this is something that our current president wants and hopes to at least have in place sometime during this term. I cetainly hope so because 48% of US citizens have no health insurance. It only promotes no preventative care and more expensive health care in the long run to not provide health care to citizens - that is because they are likely to progress further and become sicker because they haven't had any care for the smaller things. This type of health care is what was promoted by the last administration. We saw the few programs that were available in Public Health dwindle.

The child health benefits have already been put back in place since Obama took office, so that children under 18 can receive care if they have no insurance. It is just a matter of time until we all will be able to qualify for some sort of help.

There are clinics available for pregnant woman through your Countys Public health department. These have been in place since the Johnson administration in the 60's. Although there have been funding cut backs in the last decade or so, there is still help for women and children. So I would suggest she do is go to her local county health department. I have worked in one of these before. They have programs to assist her. They will even help her fill out a qualification form for medicaid-- and anyone I knew that worked for the health department would assist her and would never allow some one that is only 25.00 dollars to be unable to qualify. Usually you will find caring people who want to help this sort of place. They certainly aren't working there for the money, although they do get a salary of couse.

There will not be recently remodeled waiting rooms or offices and she will have to wait with people from all ethnic backgrounds, and likely will be seen by a qualified Nurse Practitioner (still functioning under the supervision of a physician) but she will get help, prenatal care, including lab work, and help with food after birth if needed.
