Question

YP Media is a scam first they tell you that you have had a previous listing with them in the past and that it is time to renew for the next two years, I told him that I wanted to see this listing because I had no recollection or record of doing business with them ever .He showed me a listing with incorrect and incomplete info on it. I asked him why would I want to do business with a company that couldn't get it right the first time and that if I had indeed paid for there service in the past and it was apparently entered wrong, his company owed me a refund or at least a credit for renewing. He would only apologize and assure me it wouldn't happen again. I told him I wanted to see that in writting and fees, then He told me to confirm my new info with a second party which was recorded-his and my conversation was not,of course. then I received a bill 3 months later demanding payment and late fees I called to complain and explained I only wanted to see there info first before I committed.

Optional Information

Jacksonville, Florida

Already Tried:
Complaining to the collections manager, then the manager and the supervisor. They all tell me the same thing. That it is a verbal agreement on a recording.and binding and it will be reported to the credit beaureau if I don't pay. They say I owe the money. They also tell me I agreed to the purchase by confirming my new info.I told the man I was only confirming my new info. so they could send me there info first. The contact info. thay had on record was incorrect.I only wanted to examin there info. first before accpting anything. My new address info. was not a confirmation for billing.

I am in Jacksonville, Florida I am concerned that I have to pay $359.95. Can they force me to pay for something I feel I didn't order, but they say I did, and then report me to the credit agencies if I refuse or sue me?

I am not owed anything from the past, because according to the sales rep. I was under a promotional basis. Offered by my yellow pages company who sold them my info. They claim they sent out a card saying you must send it in refusing future services, if not-they will renew you at $600.00 for the next years worth of services. Any previous business performed by there company is deleted when you "renew" so they have no access to prior information. How convienient. On Oct. 31.2008 I apparently"renewed" since 2007 I was on this promotional list. Now they are threating me with harrasing phone calls and the price will jump to over $1,200.00 if I don't pay today.

Answer

You dont need to pay for something you didnt get or order. Demand proof of order and delivery per the fair debt collection practices act.

Can you be more specific. They already say they have proof- a verbal recording. Is this verbal "agreement" really binding? They are now saying that confirming your current info. Is agreeing. And they have a listing showing with once again incorrect info. How can I cancel everything and say forget it me off your computer listing page. I don't want anything fromy ou people anymore. Go away!

Accepted Answer

A verbal agreement would be binding but they also need to prove delivery. To cancel normally it would be done in writing and you would retain a copy. You would also want to check their cancellation terms.
