Question

Is there something sort of like DID? I suppose what I mean is, is there something where you can have almost totally opposite interests or dislikes? where you feel like you're seperate but still whole? Be both extreems of something, I don't want to say personalities, but it's something. Like if a person feels they don't want to grow up but at the same time can't wait for it, or they are maybe over mature half of the time and the other half immature. To the point where it feels like two seperate things are fighting inside that person. Is there a name for something like that?...

Optional Information

Age: Almost 19; Female, New York

Already Tried:
I go to therapy, but all we talk about there is school. I try talking to friends, but even if they can understand what I am telling them, they can't tell me why I am the way I am. Sometimes I think that because I had to grow up so fast I have to balance it now by acting as a young child, but because that is seen as unacceptable now and I try my best to refrain, but it's not just that that bothers me. Sometimes I feel like two different people, but I do not have DID, I think that if I did have DID I would have another name or something, but I don't. I just want to know what's wrong with me.

Hello:

DID or Dissociative Identity Disorder occurs on a continuum. You can have a mild case in which you "space out" for periods of time, all the way to a full blown disorder with several personalities, all of whom have different names, life stories, preferences, etc.

Your condition sounds to me like a situation in which you were not allowed to explore and experiment - possibly strict upbringing, and now that you are college age, you are learning so many new things that your previous world view is being changed rapidly.

I suppose that I would call what you are experiencing, an "existential crisis" or what some folks call an identity crisis. It is quite normal and it will go away once you figure out who you are.

Let me know if you have questions about anything I have said.
