my sugar glider who is around eight plus years old has his penis hanging out of his rectom and it is mostly dried up and black. he is shacking and seems to be very sick. i live in ely a small town in nevada and the vet here does not deal with small exotic animals. is he diying? or is there something that i can do to help him get better?

Hi,
Your Glider has a rectal prolapse. This is where the intestines have come through the rectum. This usually will happen if the Glider has been straining to deficate. The first iten for first aid is to keep it moistened by making a paste out of table sugar and cool water. apply this mixture on a wet paper towel to the area. Keep it moist. The Glider will need to see the Vet asap. This will need to be resectioned and stitched in place. Keep the glider well hydrated with Pedialyte. do not feed heavy and keep warm.
