Question

If two people reside in a residential home, not married, together for 15 years. The ownership of the home has both individuals on the deed to the house. One person decides to leave the relationship, does the person leaving the relationship lose their right of ownership. Is this deemed abandonment?

Accepted Answer

It is not abandonment. As long as their name is on the deed, they still have ownership rights to the property and would need to be bought out or transfer their ownership interest to the other party. The party on the deed has an undivided half interest in the property.
