Question

I just went to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription (hydrocodone [vicodin]-which I've been taking RESPONSIBLY for 5+ YEARS to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis) - I last filled a 30 day supply on 1/16, and was getting my first re-fill. When I arrived, the pharmacist said it had not been filled. He said it was too soon, because I had just filled Hydrocodone on 2/9... I did fill some on 2/9, but AT A DIFFERENT PHARMACY, and FOR A DIFFERENT ISSUE (after a dental procedure)... It was confirmed through insurance that the 2/9 script was ok to fill because it was a different dosage and different issue.(and again, a different pharmacy-Meijer Pharm. versus CVS) I asked the Pharmacist tonight at CVS if Insurance rejected it, and he said "No we didn't submit it, because we didn't fill it, because you just filled on 2/9"-my insurance will let them know it's ok to fill: but do they have the legal right to 'snoop' through other pharmacies' records to find information like that? It seems shady!!

Accepted Answer

well its not that they are snooping through the pharmacies... the centralized system for pain meds and other medicines is used to avoid abuse and misuse of medicines. The information just pops up when they enter the medicine and patient info... don't have to look for it. Most people on chronic meds have pain contracts which means they can't take pain meds from any other source besides the clinic or same pharmacy. You are taking medicines with responsibility but there are people who try to fool the physicians and insurance company and try to sell medicines on street. They just did their job.you should not take an offense.
