It is a '98 GMC Jimmy
190,000 miles
Type of engine ? 4WD 3800 not sure (sorry that is a question for the hubby who is at work)
Monday we were told it was a Relay switch which was replaced, when it wouldn't start yesterday I was told that the remote start was the cause and the wire for this were disconnected. After each of the above remedies the Jimmy started right up. With the exception of this afternoon after driving it and shutting it off multiple times it then chose not to restart.
First think I would try is starting it in neutral. THe remote starter can cause this, but there are lots of there things as well. Also, when it won't start, does it click under the hood?
Ok, so the next thing to check is while one of you turns the key to start, the other has a finger on the crank relay in the underhood fuse block. We need to see if it is clicking. If so, then you need to test for power at the small wire on the starter when the key is in the start position. If there is power, you need a starter, no power means there is other issues.
If there was no click at the starter or crank relay, then you need to check the wiring from the ignition switch, namely the thick yellow wire.
