I have a 1999 Astro AWD with just over 100k miles. The trans has been fully serviced recently. The problem that I have had over the life of the vehicle is when I come to a long hill, 20% grade, at 55mph as the car slows it shifts to any gear including first. Engine speed needless to say goes wild. Throttle position seems to have no effect. The dealer has not found anything.

Yes the check engine light does come on. It only happens on long higher grades.

Have you had the computer codes scanned when the light has been on?

Yes I had the code checked by the dealer and they repplaced the cat and intank fuel pump. no change

Okay. Does the vehicle just seem to down shift too far or does it seem like the engine loses power?

It hunts on downshift, then settles for a very low gear, also feels like much lower power.

Did the dealer happen to tell you what the code was that they recieved?
