Question

I have a pea size lump in my labia majora right at the top to the right of where the female genitalia starts. It has been there for awhile, years, it is not red, painful or itchy. I seems bigger that what it was. I have only been with one partner for 15 years and have had HPV testing high and low risk and it has all been negative. Should I get it checked out before my annual pap in Sept. I am 36 years old, healthy.

Thank you so much for your question. It is my privilege to be able to help you.

When a lump like you describe lasts for such a long time, it generally means that it is a benign process (not a cancer or an infection). It is probably not a sexually transmitted infection either. My best guess without being able to see it is that it is something called an inclusion cyst, which happens when a small skin gland gets clogged and fills with some mucous and material. This usually is a small round painless lump that can remain this way for years. The only time it is a matter of concern is if it causes pain, or if it starts to grow, which could be because of infection, or because some other process has begun. If it seems like it is getting bigger, you should probably get it checked out before your next annual visit, since that won't be until september. If it remains the same size and is painless, you can surely wait until then.

I hope this was helpful to you. If it was, please remember to ACCEPT the answer so i can get compensated for my work. if you have any more questions, please feel free to ask. i am truly privileged to help you, and i want to make sure that you are satisfied with your answer. Good luck! Dr. SaulJE
