When a lump like you describe lasts for such a long time, it generally means that it is a benign process (not a cancer or an infection). It is probably not a sexually transmitted infection either. My best guess without being able to see it is that it is something called an inclusion cyst, which happens when a small skin gland gets clogged and fills with some mucous and material. This usually is a small round painless lump that can remain this way for years. The only time it is a matter of concern is if it causes pain, or if it starts to grow, which could be because of infection, or because some other process has begun. If it seems like it is getting bigger, you should probably get it checked out before your next annual visit, since that won't be until september. If it remains the same size and is painless, you can surely wait until then.
