doesnt matter what i eat - my partner says i could drink a glass of
water and still pass wind - sometimes its very noise - but sometimes it
really smells - there is no one food that triggers it off and no one
food that i can eat and not pass wind. night times are the worst after
our evening meal its almost instantaneous and continuous - i have seen
my doctor who said i should have an allergy test done and gave me some
tablets for mild ibs - these have not worked - i havent had the allergy
test done - what do you think about charcoal tablets - i tried them for
about 3 months but they made no difference - i am at my whits end - i
really just do not know what to do about it - i thinik i eat a very
varied diet - we have salads, home made curries, stews etc - i dont

Answer

Dear XXXXXX: Excessdive flatulence is nearly always due to something. Often it is too much frough fiber in the diet since, in humans, not all fiber is digestible and bacteria produce gas fromo incomplete digestion. Other common causes are food intolerances such as lactose intolerance or gluten sensitivity or allergy, etc.Gastroenterologiss or allergists can test and advise about this. There are other less common but more significant causes, such as sprue or pancreatic or liver disorders. If you do not eat any one type of food stuff excessively, a normal diet is what you should follow. Take simethicone (Mylicon) 4 times a day to help with the gas and see a gastroenterologist for testing and advise.     Good luck
