Answer

Hi and thanks for using JustAnswer.com.
Make a lubricating solution of 1 cup water with 5 drops dish detergent. Use "wetsand" sandpaper in a 400 grit. Put some of the solution on the scratch and gently polish the scratch. Follow up with a 600 grit. Finally use a "rubbing compound" auto part stores sell for buffing out gelcoats.

This is a good solution for minor scratches, but mine is a swirl from a diamond pad. Will this still work.

Accepted Answer

Eventually it will work. From a physical perspective, you need to abrade the surrounding marble down to a point just barely beyound the depth of the scratch. Beginning with coarser grits will accelerate the work, but too coarse a grit will simply lower new scratches. Start with a grit finer than your diamond pad and work up to the 400, 600, and rubbing compound.
