Hi there XXXXXXX,
There are no ointments (or tablets for that matter) on the market that will treat a viral infection as such. The ointments and antibiotics we prescribe are aimed to treat the secondary bacterial infection that develops 'on top of' the viral infection.
I am presuming that your kitten was diagnosed with herpes eye infection?
Chlorsig is given to treat the secondary bacteria in the hope that the kittens immune system will fight off the virus by itself in time. If there is also sneezing and an upper respiratory infection present your girl may need an antibiotic course by mouth.
To help lessen the effect of herpes virus (and to reduce the chance of the viral infection coming back in the future) I recommend L lysine supplements - 250mg BID.
I hope this helps, please reply if you have further info.
Regards,
