Question

I have heard that there was a hypoallergenic cat, maybe Turkish type? Would like to find out if possible. Also what kind of personality do they have?

Already Tried:
I do not have a precious pet at this time, as I have moved into a condo. The owner prevents me from having a cat because they would leave dander behind in case I would ever move. That is why I am searching for this cat. I saw him on cats101, I believe. I watch so many animal shows, I really cannot remember which one I saw it on.
Thank you for your prompt attention

Answer

Hi Lonely in Ohio...

The cat you're thinking about is the Allerca. These kittens are very expensive! Given your landlord's unwillingness to rent to someone with pets, I think this would be a very risky purchase for you. If you addressed the allergy concerns, I'm afraid the landlord would find something else to complain about. People who consider animals bad tenants are usually unwilling to change their minds, no matter how convincing you are.

May I make a suggestion: Maybe you could volunteer for a no-kill cat rescue. You'd get to cuddle and play with lots of cats, and you'd be helping cats who are at a real low point in their lives and could use some extra love. If you volunteer for a no-kill rescue, you'll know that all the cats' stories will have happy endings eventually, and that will make your volunteer work more fun and enjoyable.

You asked about the personalities of the Allerca cats. The FAQs page on the Web site says the cats have a lot of human contact and are well socialized and friendly when they leave the company's breeding facility. Kittens stay with their mothers until they're 12 weeks old. Sounds good, but I'm concerned that "for security reasons" people can't visit the breeding facility, and there are no pictures of it on the Web site.

I hope this answers your question. If you'd like to talk more please feel free to write back to me.
