Question

Im trying to replace the bank 1 sensor 1 o2 snsor on a 2001 saturn sc2 1.9L. The current sensor has only 1 wire that goes into a wiring harness whereas the OEM sensor i bought has a 4 wire harness with a clip and i can't find where it would clip to. I do know that the motor is not the original motor but a junkyard replacement. I'd also like to know the location of the downtube. I have a P0410 code for the secondary air injection pump but the saturn service guy said the pumps rarely go bad and the issue is more like a plugged down tube or a check valve. i was under the impression that the check valve was built into the air pump.

Hello XXXXXXXXXXX,the sensor that is in your cars exhaust right now is only a one wire sensor, and the one you picked up from a part store is a 4 wire sensor? Are you replacing the sensor because of a check engine light? Thanks Pete

Yes. I have a bank one sensor 1 code in addition to the p0410.

Answer

since your vehicle only has a one wire sensor I would recommend replacing the sensor with a one wire sensor since your engine wiring may have been changed along with the engine that was replaced.Your P0410 code may have set because of your faulty o2 sensor,if the voltage in the senor isnt dropping when the air pump is turned on then this will set the p0410 code also.I would start with the o2 sensor first. Also your exhaust check valve will be located near the exhaust manifold, locate your manifold and there should be a smaller pipe coming off of it,connected to this pipe is your exhaust check valve, there should be a vaccum hose connected to it which should only have vaccum when the air pump is commanded on,the larger hose connected to it goes to your air pump, you can check to see if the valve is stguck open by pulling off the vaccum line and the larger line(when the engine is running) on it and see if you have any exhaust flow coming through the larger line port on the valve if you do its stuck open, you can also apply vaccum to the valve when the engine is running to see if the valve opens if it opens you will notice exhaust flow through the larger port on the check valve.
