Question

95 saturn, automatic transaxle occasionally shifts down by itself while traveling steadly at 65 mph. RPM jumps from 1500 rpm, to 4500 rpm for about 1/4 mile, then shifts back to 1500 rpm all by itself. Transmission fluid has been changed and is up to level. Could the turbine speed sensor, or wiring be to blame,   also check engine light comes on.

Hello thank you for using JA let me see if I can help.

That may be so a malfunctioning speed sensor that is dropping signal will make the transmission cause all kinds of issue. I would recommend getting the vehicle scanned for codes first before condemning any sensors this will give a better indication of were to start. Any auto zone and larger auto parts chain stores will do this for free.
