I have a yorshire terrier. he has gotten some black spots coming up on his belly. I have put antifingal cream on it and it isn't going away. What is it?

Answer

This could be signs of a staph infection of the skin or a thyroid problem. You should see the vet to get the right diagnosis and treatment.

Sometimes the triggers for skin infection are food or inhalant allergies. If the vet says this is a skin infection you should talk to him about that too.

Reply to Nancy Holmes's Post: The info was great but the spots on his belly are not red or inflamed they are just black. He doesn't have any pustules or anything like that. There are no sores. The skin is just turning black in spots. Thanks Lorie

Issues with the thyroid can do that.
If he is sleeping on his back in the sun potentially this is simply tanning of spots that have extra pigmentation if the fur is thin there.
