Question

Switched Devon Rex from dry food to canned (Wellness Core fish blend-no poultry products)about 5 days ago due to inceased vomiting. He now is not drinking or urinating - though still eating fine. Tried giving him diluted beef broth, but no go either. What can I do?

Answer

hi XXXXXX,
by switching him to canned food then you are automatically increasing his water intake. I usually switch renal failure cats to canned food for this reason. If you are concerned, then when putting down his canned food, just mix a little water in with that.

I considered that as well. My concern is the lack of urination. He is otherwise "normal." Such as that is for this breed....

Answer

He could have a very low grade UTI. You could get a urine checked just to be sure and if all is normal then I wouldn't overly worry about the change in drinking and urination

Thank you. I'll try adding water to his food at next feeding.
