Optional Information

Age: 2; Male; Breed: Schaunzer / Yorkie

Already Tried:
Lots of expensive vet allergy medicine and it works ok but I can't keep spending that money and friends have told me over the counter Benedryl is just fine for dogs. I just want to double check and then how much would I give him for 11 lb. dog. He licks his paws so much in the spring and then gets hot spots and I want to try to avoid that this spring.

Thanks for writing in,

You definitely can give benedryl to dogs. The general dose is 1mg/pound up to three times per day. Most OTC benedryl is 25 mg. So if you can have this, that would be adequate for your dog. ALso, when you bathe him use cool water as this will also help decrease the inflammation of the skin. I hope that helps!!
