what pain management would a right CVA pt require - immobile and non weight bearing on left side. pt also incontinent of faeces, has SPC, sacral pressure ulcer, is dysphasic and has dysphagia and early stage dementia.              This is for a part of a nursing assignment have covered all other ADL's but stuck on the pain, last section of the assignment.

Following pain management modalities are advised in right CVA patient (hemiplegics);

 

1) Medications;

a) Gabapentin (Neurontin)

b) Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)

c) Ketoprofen (Oruvail, Orudis)

d) Amitriptyline (Elavil)

e) Tizanidine (Zanaflex, Sirdalud)

 

2) Neuromuscular electrical stimulation; improves pain and disability

 

3) If pain due to spasms; Botox injection

 

4) Intra-articular triamcinolone acetonide injection in the painful joints

 

5) For painful muscles and joints; phenol motor point blocks and neurolysis of mixed nerves.
