there is a patch on the abdomen of my tarantula that resembles a scab. It almost looks like a burn mark. Little hair grows there and it did not heal when she molted. what could this be?

Hello,

There are several reasons why a tarantula might lose hair in this area. They sometimes use the abdomen hairs in their den or burrow. If the tarantula is frightened, it will 'shed' the abdomen hairs in defense, leaving a bald spot. Most causes of this type of hair loss are considered normal. The exception is that stress can cause this. In that case, if the stress isn't relieved, it can eventually lead to illness. You'll want to be sure all conditions are right in the cage. Humidity in the cage should be at least 55%, and preferably 70%. You can increase humidity by keeping a large, shallow water bowl in the enclosure and by misting daily. The temperature should be maintained at 70 to 72*F. If you keep your home cooler than that, you may want to consider a low wattage bulb at the proper height over the cage to maintain the temperature in the right range. You can check the following site to make sure all conditions are right for your tarantula:
