Question
I have suddenly (in the last week or less) noticed weakness in my left arm. Not numbness, but just weakness. I am right handed and have not lifted anything heavy or strained my arm. I am a diabetic and under a doctor's care...having some complications with that but no new meds or procedures just yet. What could this be???

Answer
I don't know what is wrong with you but I wanted to tell you that diabetics are well known for not feeling pain when they have a heart attack. Many are found to have had an MI when seeing the doctor for some new and unknown complaint.
I will also say that some strokes have minimal residual after effects.
I suggest you talk w/ your physician.

Reply to BarbaraTaylor's Post: Thanks for your info. I am bit confused though...I am only 38 years old and have only had diabetes for 4 years so I do not have any trouble with neuropathy and seem to feel pain pretty easily in other cases. So, I am just wondering if I am even at risk for heart attacks or strokes at this point in my life. I do have a family history of heart disease and had a stress test and dye test done about 2 years ago with no sign of any trouble. I do have some chest pain on occasion, but it tends to be related to heartburn according to my doctor (she asked a LOT of questions about timing/location of pain/type of pain). So, I am hopeful that it is not this either. But, I have to admit that heart problems were my first thought. I will see the doctor and address this with her on Friday.
Answer
Well, if I had had that information about you, I probably would not have mentioned the heart attack and stroke.
I hope the link I provided may assist you with good questions for your doctor on Friday.
Best wishes.
