Hello randyhayden, my name is XXX. XXX me ask you what else you have tried. Didn't you check the fuses by the outdoor unit? Did you check to see if you had 24V at transformer on the outdoor unit? Bob

yes, i did check the fuses and by the way I forgot to mention that I could hold the contact switch down manually with a screwdriver and get the heat pump to turn on thats what led me to try a new contact switch to no avail.

Do you have a volt meter? With it you can check your control circuit starting at the step down transformer that converts the 120V control circuit to 24V which is what the thermostat requires. If you don't have a meter you can take a short piece of wire like what is used to wire the thermostat and short between R and Y terminal on the T-stat. If the unit start then you know the transformer is ok and most of the controls in the heat pump are working. It would then be necessary check your thermostat to make sure that it is setup properly and if the settings are ok then you will need to replace it. Bob
