Question

My daughter is doing a science fair project on her pet sugar gliders. The subject: How does a sugar glider's diet affect them physically? She will feed them as she normally does (fresh fruit, vegetable, nuts, protein, calcium supplement) and watch their behavior to see what they do when they're full, when they're still hungry, what happens when new foods are introduced or when they're given their favorites.

We need approval from a vet that this experiment is ok to do on Rocky and Bullwinkle, our gliders.

Thanks

Thank you for your question. Interesting topic!

My only concern is how long the gliders will be fasted to see if they are hungry. Otherwise, I think it is a humane experiment.

Do you need approval from your regular veterinarian?

I'll be online for the next little bit if you need me.

Sincerely,

Thanks bunches.

We will not really fast them just feed them a little less than they normally eat and feed them again in the morning. We can't stand for them to be unhappy and plus they make it well known when they're dissatisfied.

Thanks for your expertise.

Any vet advice is acceptable to the Science Fair Personnel.

Accepted Answer

You are welcome!

The experiment design sounds good. The animals will be treated humanely and will be evaluated for behavioral responses to changes in their normal feeding routines.

Everything sounds good to me.

Can I help with anything else?

Sincerely,
