Question

My rental lease agreement says Oct 1, 2008 - March 31, 2009 (6-month). My landlord emailed me on Feb 7, 2009 and says she has someone else to rent that will be moving Mar 7, 2009 and she is giving me 30 day notice from 2/7/09 and to depart the premises 2/28/09 (rent paid thru this date). What should I do to either stay til 3/31/09 or get relocation expenses (moving and deposits) to get moved. There is no breach of contract on my part.

Answer

You are entitled to stay for your lease term. Even if landlord wanted to evict you earlier or had reason for it for a breach of lease, the court process would take a few weeks.
