Question

I have 6 cats-indoor-three of them-females-they have vertical-what looks like scratches down the exterior of their nose-is this something I need to take them to the vet for? The first one has healed but looks like it had been cut.

I've just let them heal. The scratch or whatever it is dries up. None of the three seem to be too affected by it. I've checked claws, and did fine a few long ones.

Hi there and thanks for your question.

This will be hard to answer without actually seeing your cats, but from what you have described it sounds like the cats may have been fighting.

Keep an eye on the areas for signs of infection. You will know if they are infected if you see redness that is getting worse or swelling. If their appetites start to be affected this is a possible sign of infection as well.

So as long as things seem to be healing well I wouldn't be too worried. I also wouldn't bother with any creams or washes at all as these don't tend to be terribly effective. If you think the area is becoming infected then a vet visit is in order.

I hope this information helps! If you have more questions regarding this problem, just hit reply. If I am online I will respond right away. Otherwise I will respond as soon as I come online again. Or, if my answer is sufficient, then please hit accept. Thanks!

Dr. Marie.
