Are the batteries full time in the thermostate or are they powered by the 24 volt trasformer with the battery as back up?

Page 7 states that it holds program info on power failure so your system runs mostly on transformer power

If it is on transformer power why do the battery keep failing? shuting down the system.

I don't know are they not lasting very long but the online info says differently

My batteries at home last about 3 years. The batteries at Church last only 6 to 12 months. In my instruction book it indicates it run on batteries only. while waiting for your answer I was reading the manual.

If your instructions are saying it runs off the battery than the only thing i could say is maybe at lower temps there is more battery draw
