Question

my british short hair is only 8 months old, last week he started draging is back leg and when I touch him he cried . I took him to the vet and am currently waiting for blood results the vet has started him on a course of Antrobe 75mg just in case he has become sick from eating raw beef. Very worried he is eating, grooming and playing. Would be very interested in your opinion.

wondering if it is nerve damage or genetic all I can say is that he is draging his leg and looks most uncomfortable. Do you think it could be muscle damage?

Accepted Answer

hi,
a cat that young I would think of some sort of injury whether it be muscular or maybe a nerve inflammation. Maybe some type of anti inflammatory would help him? Sometimes cats can also throw mini embolisms to their back legs. I have seen this in younger cats as well as middle aged. It will make one or both back legs lose some circulation and feel as if they are not there. Make sure he has a strong pulse in that back leg.

Thank you for your answer, could you please let me know if there would be

long term problems, my vet rand last night and told me the the blood test came back with out any problems showing. I have a follow up appointment on Wednesday. What would the treatment be for what you have diagnosed and should i bee asking for an xray?

Kind Regards

Accepted Answer

I would still get an xray just to see if there is a skeletal problem. You can see muscular swelling from an xray also. if there was a clot(embolism) then sometimes you can use aspirin therapy. if it is a neuritis then the cat will probably benefit from some steroids. It's worth a shot.
