Question

Can Benadryl cream be used on a small spot on the side of my cat's neck. She's been scratching the area and it's become irritated. She does not have fleas. I applied Advantage a couple of weeks ago. The spot is in an area that she cannot completely lick and I was wondering if it would be safe to use a small amount if I rubbed it in really well.

Optional Information

Age: <1; Female; Breed: Cat-Siamese Mix

Already Tried:
I've dabbed it with a cotton ball moistened with a little alcohol a couple of times a day, and put a tiny little bit of antibiotic ointment on it. My vet told me this would be safe if I rubbed it in, so there would be no excess she could lick off. This is not anything really critical, but I would like to get it cleared up as soon as possible. She is solid white, and the rest of her coat is perfect. There aren't any other problems anywhere else.

Lisheid,

You certainly can use benadryl safely in your cat. However, if the irritation gets worse or does not respond to the benadryl within 72 hours, you should have the area looked at by a vet. Cats get a number of different skin disorders, not all of which are allergic in nature.

I hope this helps,
