Question

i have a Costa Rican Zebra Tarantula; near the back of the abdomen she is losing her hair. is this common if not what are possible cures

Hello,

There are several reasons why a tarantula might lose hair in this area. It often happens shortly before a molt, and is normal then. Tarantulas also sometimes use the abdomen hairs in their den or burrow. If the tarantula is frightened, it will 'shed' the abdomen hairs in defense, leaving a bald spot. Most causes of this type of hair loss are considered normal. The exception is that stress can cause this. In that case, if the stress isn't relieved, it can eventually lead to illness.
